A Whirlwind Romance

Welcome to Bellissima Couture’s second online event, A Whirlwind Romance!  For this event I was inspired by the themes of Love, Romance and Fairy Tales.   I hope that you enjoy these fashions as much as I have enjoyed making them.

All of the fashions you see here were fitted to the Silkstone Barbie body, but will also fit many different body types, as you can see.

Kiss from a Rose: Sold Out!

This vintage styled coat is made from an exquisite fabric of pink roses touched with lustrous pearl tones.  It is fully lined with pale pink silk and sports pearl buttons.  A slim, boatneck  sheath in creamy silk eyelet is lined in pale pink silk, which shows through the eyelet.  A pleated pink cummerbund decorates the waist, and pearls and pink beads embellish the shoulders.  Edition of 2

Chocolate Raspberry Truffle: SOLD OUT!

A classic swing coat with a nehru collar in a whimsical print of luxurious truffles, lined with raspberry pink silk.  Touches of gold are picked up by gold filagree buttons.  A full skirted chocolate brown silk party dress is decorated with a raspberry silk bow belt.  A raspberry sparkle tulle petticoat peeks out from the hem of the dress.  Edition of 2

This fairy tale fashion is made from a whimsical Japanese fabric that is covered with charming motifs of shoes, castles, crowns and woodland creatures, all intertwined with the rose vines that cover the castle of the Sleeping Beauty.  The colors are chocolate brown, rose pink and red, touched with gold.  The coat is lined with rose pink silk shot with brown and gold buttons decorate the front.  The classic sheath has the fairy tale print for the skirt and a pale pink silk top.  A red silk belt with a gold buckle decorates the waistline.  Edition of 2

Adorable!  I love this navy blue cotton print with swirling red ribbons and tiny Valentines and it works beautifully for this classic vintage day dress.  Deep red silk taffeta makes up the rolled collar, which dips to a deep V in the back, and a red silk belt and gold buckle trims the waist.  Edition of 2

This classic fitted suit in pale pink silk noil is truly special.  The jacket is fitted through the waist and flares out in a peplum.  Both the jacket and skirt are fully lined in pale pink silk satin.  Gold and pearl buttons decorate the jacket and pale pink satin bow nestles in the small of the back.  Edition of 2

La Pivoine

Peonies are a symbol of good fortune, as well as one of the most beautiful and extravagant flowers found in gardens all over the world.  They have a sweet, delicate fragrance and come in many shades, including cream, pale pink, and peach.  All of these colors combine in the fabric of this elegant coat ensemble, made to celebrate the new year.

People often ask me if it is difficult to find fabrics in a scale that works for such small garments.  While finding tiny prints is challenging, I don’t hesitate to work with large prints as well, especially when they are as beautiful as this fabric.  When a large print is used in this way, it takes on a different character entirely and becomes more about abstract shapes and beautiful colors than the actual pattern of the fabric itself. 

I love the rich colors of the holidays, but when I sat down with my fabric stash to find a fabric for my first outfit of the new year, I was immediately drawn to this one.  It brought to my mind the warmth of the sun in spring and the faint and elusive scent of peonies.  The colors are subtle, but so lovely together.  I chose a pale pink silk satin to line the coat.  Large, creamy pearls are used as buttons and a vintage pink flower brooch with a pearl center adorns the coat’s shawl collar.  The coat can be worn open or closed.

For the sheath, I wanted a simple, but elegant fabric that would complement the coat without competing with it.  I chose a very special fabric, a cream silk eyelet, the color and luster of which picks up the shade and sheen of the large pearl buttons on the coat.

Finally, the hat!  Made from silk peony petals, the center is decorated with a simple pearl, to match the coat’s buttons.  The hat is attached to a flexible pink silk band that can be adjusted to fit your doll’s head.

While modeled on Betty Draper, a silkstone Barbie, this fashion will also fit similar dolls such as Monograms, Poppy Parker, and Fashion Royalty dolls.

La Pivoine includes the shawl collared coat, silk eyelet sheath and peony hat.  Also included are cream gloves and pale pink slingback shoes from Dressmaker Details.

The Bluebird of Happiness

This fashion is SOLD!

The legend of the bluebird of happiness is very ancient and one that exists in many cultures. The bluebird is a symbol of happiness, prosperity, good health and renewal.  These are qualities that are perfect for this holiday season of love and family and  inspired me to create this ensemble.

The fabric of the coat, imported from England, depicts cheerful bluebirds perched in an old fashioned Christmas tree decked with flowers and stars.  French blue silk taffeta lines the coat and makes up the shawl collar.  The coat can be worn open or closed and is adorned with pearl buttons.

An elegant sheath in jade silk taffeta complements the French blue lining, sporting tiny pearls at the shoulders and crystal buckle and French blue silk bow at the waist. 

An extravagant platter hat (attaches to the hair with straight pins) in French blue silk is covered in sparkly blue tulle in which nestles a tiny rose pink bird.

This ensemble is modeled by the stunning Tribute Silkstone and includes the coat, sheath and hat.  It does not include the shoes, doll or backdrop props.

First Annual Holiday Sale at Bellissima Couture!

Hello and welcome to my first online holiday event!  I have been working on these fashions for weeks, and it has been really hard not to share them with you along the way, but I wanted everyone to be surprised.  I have tried to capture the holiday season with both traditional holiday colors and some that are perhaps a little unexpected, yet no less seasonal.  I hope that you all find something that perfectly embodies the season for you!

All fashions are shown modeled by Silkstones, but should fit other similarly sized dolls.  Please do not hesitate to ask about the fit on particular dolls, and I will do my best to accommodate you.  Sometimes it is as simple as moving the snaps, which I am happy to do.

PEACE ON EARTH: SOLD OUT!

The dove of peace perched on a sprig of roses is the perfect holiday message.  The swing coat with nehru collar is lined in pale celadon silk satin and decorated with large pearl buttons.  The sheath is made of complementary shades of French blue and olive silk satin and iridescent beads decorate the shoulders.

RENAISSANCE CHRISTMAS: One available

A delightful Renaissance print with holly sprigs sprinkled throughout makes up this classic swing coat with a nehru collar.  The coat is lined in purple silk shot with green.  Gold filagree buttons decorate the front of the coat.  The gold is picked up in the pleated cummerbund of the sheath dress.  Beads decorate the shoulders of the sheath.

One of my very favorite holiday prints in classic Christmas colors of greens, reds and golds in a medley of patterns.  The shawl collar of the coat is made from black cherry iridescent silk dupioni, which also makes up the lining of the coat.  Gold buttons decorate the front.  A matching sheath dress in black cherry silk and the patchwork cotton print is the perfect complement.

An elegant silk brocade coat with a shawl collar in lime micro check reveals a lining in a whimsical print of presents in pink, green, and red.  The same print makes up the classic sheath dress.  Silver buttons and a silver brooch with a pink Swarovski crystal decorate the coat.

Pink, red, and white are a refreshing palette for this coat ensemble.  The classic swing coat sports a creamy fur collar and pearl buttons and is fully lined in white silk satin.  The sheath dress has the peppermint lace fabric as the skirt, a pale pink silk satin as the bodice and a red silk satin cummerbund.  Tiny pearls decorate the shoulders.

This special suit is made up of a wonderful winter white silk tussah woven with silver.  The neckline is richly “frosted” with beads in many shapes and sizes, including Swarovski crystals.  A silver silk bow belt defines the peplum waistline.

A classic party dress in deep red shot with black silk taffeta, with a black tulle petticoat.  The shoulders of the dress sparkle with red beads.  The green sash with a handmade couture rose with a beaded center can be removed if you choose to make the dress less Christmas-y for the rest of the year.

Cherries in the Snow

Poppy wants to take her dog Cherry to the tree lighting ceremony in the park and has given her a festive red hat to celebrate the season. 

Not to be outdone, Poppy has chosen a bright red coat in silk noil, lined with black and white checked silk dupioni for herself.  Coal black buttons accent the coat. 

A black and white floral sheath is the perfect complement to the red coat and black and white lining. 

A matching beret in red silk noil features a jaunty black and white checked bow and finishes off this classic, festive ensemble.

This ensemble is modeled by Poppy, but can also be worn by Silkstones and other similarly sized dolls.  It includes the coat, sheath and beret.

 

Kaleidoscope

In Greek, the word kaleidoscope means “Observer of Beautiful Forms.”  Verushka is indeed a beautiful form in this elegant coat and sheath ensemble in a kaleidoscopic pattern of purples touched with gold.

The shawl collared coat is fully lined in smoky amethyst silk and this same color makes up the collar.  The sheath has the kaleidoscope patterned cotton for the skirt, a French lavender silk bodice and smoky amethyst pleated cummerbund. 

A lavish necklace of Japanese Miyuki fringe beads in shades of blue and purple, and delicate earrings complete this look.

This ensemble was specially fitted to Silkstone Barbie, but will fit other similarly sized dolls, though perhaps not as well.  It includes the coat, sheath, necklace and earrings.

Candy Coated

Poppy may not melt in your hand, but she will definitely melt your heart in this candy pink ensemble, inspired by the striking coloring of this lovely Poppy Parker doll from the 2011 Integrity Toys Convention. 

The coat is made from a beautiful cotton print in shades of pink touched with gold in a stylized overlapping shell print.  Real gold buttons trim the coat and it is fully lined in bright pink silk. 

The slim sheath has the shell print cotton as the skirt and pink silk as the bodice, which is highlighted by a Swarovski crystal brooch in shades of pink. 

A flamboyant bow headband hat tops of this candy colored ensemble.

This ensemble was specially designed for and fitted to Poppy Parker, but it will also fit other dolls of similar proportions, such as Silkstone Barbie, Monograms, Nu Face and Misaki, though perhaps not quite as well.

Le Paon

In nature it is the male peacock who has the beautiful iridescent plumage, while the female is more subdued in shades of brown.  But if you shop at Bellissima Couture, then your favorite diva can be decked out like the most extravagant peacock of them all!

This is a very special outfit…pictures do not do justice to this beautiful cotton print in shades of blue and green, accented with black and touched with gold that is inspired by the overlapping feather “scales” on the breast of a peacock.  The coat is fully lined in a gorgeous blue green silk, which is also the collar of the coat.  Faceted crystals are used for the buttons.  A subtle hook and loop closure enables you to style the coat closed or open. 

A sophisticated sheath shines under the coat.  The cotton print makes up the skirt and simple black silk makes up the top and lining.  A kingfisher blue silk taffeta cummerbund accentuates the waist, while the neckline is encrusted with beading that catches the light and picks up the colors in the coat and skirt.

Finally, an elaborate silk headband sports an extravagant feather display, accented with a vintage Swarovski crystal brooch.
